The two focuses are: human resource development; building essential infrastructure and nuclear cities, attracting investment. Three breakthroughs include: development of the mining and energy industry; processing industry and high-tech agriculture; services and tourism.

Thanks to the right policy, the scale of GRDP of the province in 2013 increased 3.6 times compared to 2004 (according to 1994 comparative prices). The economic structure has shifted in the right direction; budget revenue in 2013 reached VND 1,140 billion, 5.7 times higher than in 2004, per capita income increased 7.9 times compared to 2004; the rate of poor households decreased sharply, from 33.73% (in 2004) to 15.64% (in 2013). The highlight in attracting investment is the start of construction of Nhan Co Alumina plant, Dak Nong Aluminum electrolysis plant; upgrading the Ho Chi Minh road section through the province.

The socio-cultural field has made rapid changes in both scale and quality. Education and training has increased by 172 schools, with 1,326 classrooms, of which 68 schools meet national standards. Health care for the people basically meets the requirements. The traditional cultural values of ethnic groups are preserved and promoted, with 40 festivals restored...

From 10 affiliated party committees, with 7,000 initial party members, after 10 years it has increased to 13 party committees with 21,300 party members; eradicated 18 villages, bons and "white" villages where Party members were on-the-spot. Traditional education is focused. The political system at all levels has been strengthened and consolidated. The province has built 8 landmark locations with 16 landmarks on the Vietnam-Cambodia border; the friendly relationship with Mondulkiri province was maintained and strengthened.

From 2014 to now, inheriting and developing the "2 concentrations and 3 breakthroughs" set out in the 2010-2015 term and the 2015-2020 term, to the 12th Congress, the Provincial Party Committee identified 3 pillars of the economy including the development of bauxite - alumina - aluminum industry, renewable energy, etc processing industry; developing high-tech and sustainable agriculture along the value chain; exploiting and developing tourism potential. At the same time, 3 strategic breakthroughs were selected: strongly improving the business investment environment; building infrastructure, focusing on transport infrastructure; developing human resources as a lever for development.

The business investment environment has continuously improved, with 3,668 operating enterprises, total registered capital of VND 35,188 billion. Transport infrastructure is interested in investment, the plasticization rate reaches 70%.

The agricultural sector develops in the direction of high-tech application, concentrated production, and deep processing, with 23 provincial key products, 4 high-tech agricultural production areas, and 63 OCOP products. In 2020, Dak Nong Geopark was recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark, opening up great opportunities for tourism development.

The fields of socio-culture, education and training, and health have made great progress. Traditional cultural values are paid attention to preservation and promotion. The face of the countryside is increasingly spacious, with 36/60 communes meeting the new rural standards. In 2023, the rate of poor households in the province will decrease by over 3%, especially the rate of poor households of ethnic minorities on the spot is estimated to decrease by over 5%; the rate of poor households in the province (according to the multidimensional poverty line) is 7.97%.
