Strengthening COVID-19 prevention and control measures
Amid the increasing trend of COVID-19 cases, the People’s Committee of Dak Nong Province has issued an official directive requiring departments, sectors, and localities to strictly implement measures to prevent and control the spread of the disease, ensuring public health and minimizing community transmission.
As of May 14, 2025, Vietnam has recorded 148 COVID-19 cases in 27 provinces and cities, with no reported deaths and no major outbreak clusters. However, the number of cases has shown an upward trend over the past three weeks, averaging 20 cases per week. In Dak Nong, 6 cases have been reported (Dak Mil: 5 cases; Cu Jut: 1 case).
To proactively respond to the evolving situation, the Provincial People's Committee emphasized the need for all departments, sectors, mass organizations, and armed forces units, as well as local authorities, to coordinate closely with the health sector to enhance public communication about COVID-19 prevention. This communication should follow guidelines issued by competent health authorities and aim to raise public awareness of the importance of taking preventive actions.
The Department of Health is assigned to intensify the implementation of preventive measures both at healthcare facilities and within the community. It must be prepared to receive, provide emergency care, and effectively treat COVID-19 patients, particularly those at high risk such as pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with underlying health conditions. Active surveillance must also be strengthened to ensure early detection of infections or outbreaks at medical institutions, educational facilities, and border checkpoints. When cases are identified, timely response measures must be promptly deployed to prevent further spread within the community.
In addition, the health sector is required to closely monitor the disease situation and prepare for any possible developments. This includes ensuring readiness for patient admission and treatment, enhancing emergency care and intensive care capacity, and securing sufficient resources such as medicines, vaccines, test kits, disinfectants, medical equipment, logistics, and personnel.
The Department must also review and prepare suitable facilities that can be used for isolation or treatment, ensuring they meet the required standards and can be activated when necessary.
At the same time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with Dak Nong Newspaper and Dak Nong Radio and Television Station, is tasked with strengthening communication efforts to raise public awareness about the risks of the COVID-19 outbreak. These agencies are also required to work with the health sector to provide regular updates on the epidemic and promote key preventive practices. Citizens are advised to wear masks in public spaces, on public transport, and at medical facilities; avoid large gatherings; regularly wash hands with soap or hand sanitizer; maintain a healthy lifestyle and balanced nutrition; and immediately visit the nearest healthcare facility if they experience symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
